5 Must-Have Furniture for Your Bedroom

We list the essential bedroom furniture to stock-up on when you remodel your home.

Be it the cosiest couch in the living room or the most relaxing rocking chair in the corner of your study, nothing comes close to the comfort one experiences in the bedroom. It’s not just the bed but the overall feel of your bedroom.

Sleeping, even though the most dominant, is just one of the things you do in your bedroom. Reading a book, private phone calls with friends or that special someone, or even singing along to your favourite song, there is something about your bedroom that makes you feel relaxed, just like a warm hug.

However, a cluttered bedroom can make one feel suffocated or an overly spacious one can exhibit a feeling of emptiness. It should have that perfect balance of aesthetics and comfort.

Here are 5 must-have furniture items to avoid clutter or an uncomfortably spacious bedroom.[i]

1 A bed
Apart from the snug mattress for our beauty sleep, the type of bed is elementary. Make sure you pick a bed that fits your room, with respect to size and looks. A king size bed is great if you like space while seeping but you may have to dial down on other items if you have a small room. So take your pick! You could choose one with some storage space underneath to avoid a mess.

Also, placement makes a difference. Since a bed is the biggest furniture in the room, it is advisable to place it against a wall, so you don’t bump into it while moving around, or leave an unnecessary empty gap that does absolutely nothing.

2 A nightstand or a bedside cabinet
It serves as a furniture to place your night lamp, a jug of water and glass, your book, mobile phone, Bluetooth speakers etc.[ii] Since it’s usually small and placed next to your bed, a nightstand or a bedside cabinet makes life a bit simpler. Consider this a part of your bed and should blend-in with it.
Also, place your cabinet in a spot with a charging plug nearby for your lamp and electronic devices.

3 A wardrobe
A wardrobe is a large piece of furniture[iii]. Align it with the largest wall in the bedroom so that your room will look spacious. Think about symmetry as well. Ensure that your wardrobe doors are not obstructed by your bedroom door or any other furniture. This could cause bumps and spoil the aesthetics.

4 A dressing table
A dressing table is a multipurpose cabinet[iv]. Its top holds a mirror, perfume bottles, make-up, and other items needed to apply finishing touches to your wardrobe. Even though you’ve got a wardrobe for your clothing, the drawers of a dressing table can accommodate small to medium-sized clothing. Things that usually tend to get misplaced in a big wardrobe.

There are those that also have space for a small seat. Place it close to a lamp for when natural light from the window is not sufficient.

5 A chair near the window
A place of quiet contemplation and relaxation. Be it relishing a cup of tea or indulging in your favourite book, a chair near the window, is a great spot to relax.[1]

An elegant chair in the room acts as an ornament, enhancing the look of your room. When placed near the window keeps you closer to natural light and fresh air. You could even opt for a rocking chair if you are looking for a classic look.

These 5 furniture items can steer your bedroom remodel in the right direction. You can finish with drapes, a rug on the floor, wall art and a wall clock.
