The best new trends in kitchen design for the year

Combine form and function in your kitchen remodel, as we explore the hottest new design trends for 2020.
The kitchen presents quite a few challenges for every designer. It needs to have every attribute at once: it must be fully functional while also being aesthetically pleasing, and it must accommodate everybody while also leaving scope for personalisation. Meanwhile, its design should be on point so that it doesn’t look dated.
If you’re looking to remodel your kitchen, you’re probably confused about where to start. Do you change the colour scheme or do you install new furniture? Do you knock down a wall to make more space, or do you focus on simple touches? We’ve listed the best new kitchen furniture and design trends for you to consider. They’re easy to incorporate, and they make perfect sense without you having to change too many things around. Check these out:
* Quartz countertops.
Kitchen space is defined by the quality and size of its working and cooking tops. Over the years, there have been several finishes in countertops, but the quartz countertop continues to charm users all over the world. Quartz countertops are durable, versatile and elegant. This is one trend that is set to rule the design stakes this year as well, so you should really get on board.
* Base cabinets next to the dining table.
The dining table is the centrepiece of the kitchen, but it needs to be ably supported by other kitchen furniture as well. Case in point, a base cabinet set next to it. Base cabinets so located have high utility, insofar that you can stack all your crockery, cutlery, coasters, placemats and even serving and mixing bowls in there. It adds to the convenience of the space, and you can leave the dining table completely empty when not in use. How about placing a large vase of flowers in the centre, and adding a chandelier above the table to add some timeless elegance to space?
* Ropes to hang pots.
The normal convention is to have a line of hooks on the walls to hang your pots and pans. Or stow these items away in a cabinet under the counter. But have you tried a new, slightly boho way of doing the same, and using ropes? That’s right, and you can tie ropes on hooks, and hang your pots and pans on them. But here’s a slight twist to this trend: instead of hanging the pots and pans from ceiling hooks – thereby causing a hazard to your head every time you pass them by – you can hang the ropes along one wall. This looks tidier as well.
* Modular kitchens.
Modular kitchens continue to rule the popularity charts in terms of kitchen furniture trends. And with good reason, too. They are convenient, they are versatile, and they are great for smaller kitchens looking to save as much space as possible. You can design an entire kitchen or just part of it, though we suggest the former option for want of uniformity.
