How to maintain a memory foam mattress – Simple do and don’ts




A memory foam mattress is known for its durability and comfort that it offers for a good night’s sleep. To maintain this mattress, you need to follow certain do and don’ts. These do and don’t will help you care for a memory foam mattress better, and this mattress could easily last you for good 15 years!
Let’s take a look at them:

Rotate your mattress:
While the manual may read that the memory foam mattresses are designed not to be turned over, just like many of the layered foam mattresses. However, it is recommended that you flip your mattress every six months and rotate it head-to-foot every three months. This practice will help you prevent your mattress from having depressions in areas that experiences concentrated pressure.

Keep the liquids away:
While you may be in the habit of taking food to your bed, it’s best to avoid doing so when it comes to a memory foam mattress. Avoid taking fluids such as water, cold drinks, tea, or coffee to the mattress. Liquids deteriorate the foam faster and result in untimely wearing out of the mattress. Hence, it will help to keep the liquids off the mattress. You can also cover your mattress with a protective layer if you have children who are prone to spillages.

Use a suitable bed base:
There are a few things that you need to keep in mind while arranging a bed base:
·         It has to be firm.
·         The base needs to be even.
·         It shouldn’t leave significant gaps and should cover every corner of your bed.
If your bed base has larger gaps then, this will lead to deterioration of the mattress due to uneven support.

Keep it away from heat:
Memory foam, by nature, is a heat-sensitive material which is primarily why it reacts to your posture and body shape. Hence, to ensure that you have a comfortable, it is crucial that you keep the memory foam mattress away from heat emitters, electric blankets, hot water bottle, or anything that carries heat.

Make your bed later:
Making bed soon after you wake up is a bad idea. This doesn’t give the mattress enough time to dry the moisture on it from your body. The memory foam mattress retains this moisture which results in stains and an early deterioration of the material.
